Almost There!

While Amelia’s life will never be normal after her transplant, she is getting as close to normal as she possibly can. Only weeks after her transplant, Amelia walked half a 5k with her family, representing four generations! Even though she had recently had a massive surgery she gathered her strength and went to support her community. Every day she shows how much one can overcome and grow in adversity.

At the end of July 2021 she finally got her dialysis catheter removed! This was an incredible day for her. It finally marked the moment that she would be able to be a child again. After her incision healed she was able to have her very first sleepover in a very long time, and eventually she will be able to go swimming and do much more. She no longer has to worry about dialysis twelve hours a day, being careful of the tube coming out of her stomach, or infection or irritation in an area no child should have to worry about. So far her body has not rejected her new kidney, but she has had many hurdles and has many more to come.

Furthermore, on the month anniversary of her kidney transplant family and friends gathered to celebrate her life. Although she was humble, she radiated with happiness as people around her congratulated her and showered her with love.

The last month to two months have been an incredible, yet challenging, time for Amelia in her family. With time she grows and recovers, but still needs support from the people around her.

We are so grateful for everyone’s support so that COTA can assist with a lifetime of expenses associated with Amelia’s transplant and continuing treatment!
