Update 11/18
Today was an another tough day.
On 11/14 one day after surgery, Aurelia’s breathing tube was taken out. On 11/14 and 11/15 Aurelia was sitting up in her bed. On 11/16 Aurelia sat on the edge of her bed and dangled her feet. She was in a lot of pain but she needed to sit up move in order to help push liquid off of her.
11/27, Monday, (4th day post surgery) during Physical Therapy, Aurelia moved again to the edge of the bed and she supported herself at the edge of the bed. She later did it again in the afternoon. Aurelia has a pain button that will release her pain medication every 8 minutes. She clicked that button 81 times within that 24hours. She was struggling in the beginning and ended strong.
Over the weekend Aurelia was losing blood. Sunday afternoon, Monday and today she needed red blood transfusions. Doctors are still adjusting her BiVADs and figuring out why her red blood is dropping.
11/18- Early this morning Aurelia started to vomit blood. Which we were told was expected. Today, was another tough day. She had PT and this time she stepped off of the bed and took two steps which was a real struggle. Aurelia is putting on a brave face and is so damn strong.
Kaimi is currently flying back to Hawaii today and will return next week with Quinn which was already planned because of Thanksgiving. Aurelia is making good progress but she is struggling and today she bursted into tears after her wounded vac changed. She was so overwhelmed and in pain that she broke down.
Today, I raised my voice to two PA, who was in charged of Aurelia’s wound vac change and a doctor because they were careless and ignorant to her blindness and informing her of who they are and what they were going to do. I was so mad at them. I informed them that they needed to be more aware of their patients and that they needed to announce themselves and inform her what they were going to do bc no one wants to be touched or moved or spoken to if they don’t know who or what will happen. I informed them that we, as women don’t want to be touched or grabbed so just imagine a blind person and how scary that can be. Even Aurelia said, wow after my rant. lol but I was so mad, bc we have inform people to announce themselves as they enter her room. BTW we have signs all over her door saying, she is blind and to announce themselves and their intentions.
Aurelia is making progress, good progress, but she is also struggling!!! I am so proud of her and all of her efforts to get stronger!!! She is truly amazing!!!
