Aloha Everyone,

To our family and friends:

As a family, Kaimi, Aurelia, Quinn and myself flew to Lucile Packer Children’s Hospital at Stanford, California on 9/14 for a Heart Transplant Evaluation. After several days and many doctors, meetings, and procedures, Aurelia was admitted into the hospital on 9/18. The plan is as followed. Aurelia was placed on intravenous medication to help her heart relax and circulated blood around to her vital organs so her body will be able to accept the EXTRA calories and nutrition that she will need. Aurelia will need to gain more calories and nutrient in order to be listed for a heart transplant. This is the first steps of several just to get her body ready to be able to receive and recover from a heart transplant.

As of now, Aurelia and I do not have a return date back to Hawaii. Kaimi and Quinn flew back on Saturday 9/20. I will be staying with Aurelia at her bedside this whole time and Kaimi and Quinn will fly back and forth from Hawaii to California as much as possible to visit with us.

Aurelia is a very strong and brave 12 year old and I am proud of her ability to understand her health needs and her situation. Aurelia’s strength, resilience and humor will help us all on this new adventure!!! Aurelia was excited and scared, but now she is worried about the pain levels, but she understands what the “Next Steps” is even if it’s challenging and hard. Aurelia is saddened that she will not be able to fully complete her Children’s Miracle Network responsibilities for Kapiolani Medical Center for Woman and Children. Aurelia is fully aware what is needed for her to live a successful life, so she will focus on her medical needs and school so she doesn’t fall behind in 7th grade.

As for Quinn, she is emotional and she loves her sister fiercely, she is having a difficult time talking about everything and trying to be brave for her sister! I told Quinn to be brave for herself because this is challenging and hard for herself as well!!!!

We will be making a COTA donation page to help with transplant-related expenses, but in the mean time, we ask that you continue to pray for Aurelia and the doctors and hospital staff that will be working on her, pray for Quinn to give her the strength she needs to also be brave, and for Kaimi and myself, so we don’t lose ourselves in the process. Thank you for always being so supportive and for all the LOVE!!! I will try to respond and update everyone when I can. Thank you for being understanding and your patience with us while we navigate this new adventure!!! There will always be Adventures.with.Aurelia.
