When are you coming back to school?
Recovery from organ transplants take time. The usual stay following the transplant is 10-15 days. There are twice weekly visits to see the pediatric liver hepatologist (liver doctor), blood tests, and visits with other medical and therapeutic staff. Denver Children’s Hospital’s goal is to help Zack get back to normal life as soon as is realistic and wise for both physical and mental well-being.

Zack has loves his high school (New Vista HS in Boulder) and that is something that one rarely hears. However, when you experience bullying and dread going to school every day, you long for a place like New Vista. So what’s so special about this High School?

- After reading the Mission, Vision and Goals you will understand that students and their safety and the ability to work to their potential is key! https://nvh.bvsd.org/about/mission-and-vision
- Relationships with and between educators and students is high priority.
- Leadership – being a former educator (45 years public education and a member of the administration) it is clear to me what excellence in leadership looks like. Principal John M. and his off-the-charts talented staff have created an environment that changed the way Zack feels about school. Congrats to them!
The team at New Vista is working compassionately and closely with Zack and his parents to establish a schedule that will help Zack heal safely and participate in classes. He may not attend full days for a while but he is doing his best to push back on pain and enjoy being a student again.
