A Merry Time for All

Where did the past four and one-half months go? There are just three days before Christmas which is a truly a time to celebrate and be thankful.

The Nixs have much to celebrate this holiday season:

  1. Zack’s transplanted liver seems to have adjusted to his body (so far). No reoccurrences of pancreatitis.
  2. Blood tests indicate some minor rejection but overall things are going well. Doctors are reducing the steroids in small amounts on a regular basis.
  3. The recent CT and MRI found no spread of the cancer found in the removed liver.

Zack awaiting CT and MRI scan a few weeks ago at Children’s Hospital – Denver.

4. Zack has been in school regularly since October and has enjoyed being back with friends.

5. The Nixs were able to see both sets of grandparents and some cousins over the Thanksgiving holidays in Madison, Wisconsin.

6. Zack is learning how to drive and doing well getting his hours of parent supervised driving in on a regular basis.

COTA fund-raising has helped with transplant-related expenses covering mileage costs, medical and pharmaceutical costs not covered by insurance, and the incidentals related to long days in the hospital.

We have raised $20,302 with a goal of $25,000 by March 2025. Thank you to each and everyone who has contributed to COTA in honor of Dani, Tom and Zack.

We are only $4,698 from the COTA Challenge Grant goal providing an additional $2500. Contributions are tax-deductible when donated through the Children’s Organ Transplant Association, a 501.3c non-profit helping transplant families.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year to All!
