On Friday the 16th, Breyman was having a very lethargic day. He was not eating, drinking, or sitting up at all. He had another blood transfusion making that his 4th this week because his hemoglobin was low, once again. A nurse named Erika took it into her own hands and decided to get a doctor right away to have him seen because he just wasn’t himself. They took him to CT to get a scan of his brain just to make sure everything was okay. He was rushed to the PICU and as soon as he was picked up by his mom, he began to vomit blood. This led to nurses and doctors rushing in to intubate to avoid him possibly choking on it.ย
The endoscopy that was done on Thursday, the 15th, showed a Grade II varices which was banded, so no one knew where the bleeding was coming from, the possible answer was old blood from the previous bleed. Along with the breathing tube, a drain was placed to get some of that blood out of his belly. This whole process was so scary and sudden. Overnight was smooth for the most part, Breyman woke up a few times scared but medicine helped him calm down and stay resting.
Saturday Morning, another blood transfusion was done and shortly after, another endoscopy. This endoscopy showed a pocket of blood that had formed in his stomach, but, thankfully, Breyman’s body started to heal itself by clotting and scabbing it over. The team decided to keep him sedated and intubated for a few more days to allow more time for the healing process, and around 4pm another transfusion was done.
Sunday morning, nothing unusual was happening, but they wanted to retape his breathing tube to relieve some pressure on his lungs. During this process, the tube was moved out of his airway but wasn’t supposed to and Breyman stopped breathing. Compressions and immediate life-saving procedures were done to get Breyman back to us. Compressions lasted 14 minutes and they were able to get his heartbeat back and get him intubated again. He is now back to resting, his blood pressure and heart rate are stable, and he is in a coma-like state due to medicines. The best part about this is he did not feel pain or remember what had happened.ย
We are asking for constant prayers for Breyman. Please ask the Lord to cover him in strength, peace and bravery.
