24 hours. Caleb’s heart has beat inside his chest.
His medical team says the first 24 hours are pivotal. For recovery. For accepting his heart. For basically everything.
24 hours of hope. The prayers, support, and encouragement have flooded in from absolutely everywhere. Caleb’s ICU room, filled to the brim with love.
In just 24 hours. Caleb is able to communicate, using sign language to share with us. His lactic numbers fell drastically (from 14 to less than 1). Completely off of his fentanol meds. Taken off of insulin, because he no longer needs it. Down to just one bedside nurse because he is recovering so well. Medical team elated at his progress, calling him a rockstar.
24 hours of getting to know a new heart. Beautifully overwhelmed to see his pulse so strong, his heart beating to the rhythym of life.
