Caleb’s journey began before he was even born. We found out he had HLHS while he was still in the womb. HLHS is a severe congenital heart defect where the left side of the heart is underdeveloped.
Caleb had to have his first surgery at 9 days old, but his surgery was only partially successful. His 10-hour procedure was stopped halfway through. His heart was too weak to finish it. When surgery was finished they had to put him on a machine called ECMO which gave his heart a chance to relax. Later we found out he has Right Ventricle Disfunction. With both HLHS and Right Ventricle Disfunction it means he will need a heart transplant. Knowing he has a long journey ahead we have partnered with The Childrens Organ Transplant Association (COTA) for assistance with transplant-related expenses. Please consider donating to COTA in honor of Caleb Strong. Thank you for all of your love and support as we watch Caleb grow into a Strong boy.
The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
