Camden Powell is the 4 year old son of Sara Powell. In March of 2020 Sara received a phone call from one of Camden’s doctors that would change everyone’s lives. She was told that some of Camden’s blood work had come back abnormal and he would need to undergo some cardiac testing. After more blood work, Echocardiograms and EKGs she found out Camden had inherited a mutated gene but was not showing any symptoms and all the testing was coming back with little to no concern.
Within months Camden’s doctor confirmed his cardiac testing is no longer normal and he was diagnosed with Restrictive Cardiomyopathy (RCM). RCM is a condition where the chambers of the heart become stiff over time. Though the heart is able to squeeze well, it’s not able to relax between beats normally. This makes it harder for the heart to fill with blood. It is extremely rare. There is no cure. There is no medicine to fix it. There is no simple surgery to repair it. The only option they have at this point is a heart transplant. Without the heart transplant Camden will have no chance of survival.
A heart transplant comes with a great deal of medical care. Camden will be on immunosuppressant medication for the rest of his life along with frequent trips to Boston Children’s Hospital. Camden and his family have partnered with COTA in preparation for a lifetime of ongoing transplant-related expenses.
Many have asked for ways to help, we ask that you please consider donating as a way to do just that. 100% of the donations will benefit COTA in honor of Camden to assist with a lifetime of transplant-related expenses. Any amount truly makes a difference and is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to contribute financially, your continued thoughts and prayers are also equally valued!
With all of our love and gratitude,
The Powell Family
