It’s now been a month and a day since Chloe’s liver transplant and we still feel no closer to getting her out of the hospital than we did on 11/22 when she came out of surgery. She appeared to be improving after the surgery but her blood levels were extremely low which lead to her collapsing and having emergency surgery on 11/29 to fix the internal bleeding that Chloe suddenly suffered from. Her blood numbers have been monitored daily and while with medications her White Blood Count has improved, there has constantly been further complications and setbacks. Fluid has constantly been accumulating in her abdomen and chest cavity, which has involved multiple minor procedures to put in, take out, adjust, and put back in the drain tubes that cause persistent pain. When Chloe’s not under anesthesia or it’s affects or afraid of the next poke, prod, or procedure her spirits remain high as she shops online for Christmas presents for her family or draws pictures for her sisters or the nurses that take care of her. Walking is a struggle but one that she is trying to relearn. Eating is a struggle but a few bites of some of her favorite meals seems to brighten her days. Sleeping is a struggle but some nights are better than others. All those things the rest of us take for granted and do with ease is currently a struggle for Chloe. We are currently awaiting bone marrow donor results and the decision on whether that will be necessary or not and look forward to when Chloe’s struggles are at least here at home.
