Just a quick note, and hopefully the word has spread, that Cohen was discharged from the hospital yesterday!! Just in time to spend one night all together as a family before the girls went back to Idaho today.
We are praising God for this miracle in and of itself. To see how far Cohen has come in 2.5 weeks is amazing. He is so strong & a fighter. He is not having to wear oxygen around the clock already, which points to the function of his new liver and how it is working well. We cannot say thank you enough for your prayers, which we know have covered us.
We were very surprised when they came in Friday saying we might be able to go home the following day. We are still battling some of his tummy pain coming on pretty strongly but they said they would be comfortable with sending him home with pain meds. They think that the inflammation found in his intestines from an ultrasound and MRI need additional time to heal. He also started steroids to help with this and we have seen some improvement.
There are various other labs that are off they are watching, but he will be monitored closely with twice a week labs and clinic appointments.
There is so much that goes into his at home care now, and a lot of that comes with increased anxiety for us. We know to expect bumps especially this first year, but we will take it one day at a time. We have to stay near Stanford for 3 months post transplant, but are already praying he will be doing well enough that we can shorten this time frame!
Thank you again for reading, praying, giving. There are hardly words to express this type of gratitude we feel.
