Merry Christmas and almost Happy New Year! We cannot thank you enough for your ongoing prayers and encouragement to us. It continuously lifts us in the hard moments and hard days.
Cohen is on day 12 post transplant. He was transferred from the ICU to the children’s floor on Sunday 12/28. He is continuing to recover, and now has a much quieter room on a much calmer floor. We have been hoping this provides him with some better rest at night, but he has been having some really strong stomach pain over the last week. The team continues to problem solve the cause. He had an X-ray that points to gas pain and an ultrasound of his bladder that was all clear. We haven’t been able to ease his pain outside of oxy, which we want to cut down on since it can slow down his gut. We appreciate any prayer that it gets better, that the team can resolve the cause, and he can get some better rest.
If there isn’t improvement over the next few days there is talk about another CT scan to make sure we aren’t missing anything.
His past fever subsided quickly from antibiotics and they think a small bile leak has healed. Yesterday, 12/29, he was able to go on his first walk around the floor during physical therapy! He continues to be so brave and strong… fighting through his pain and discomfort with his eyes on the goal of discharge and normalcy. In the moments he gets relief from the pain you can usually catch him napping to episodes of Bluey 🙂
His oxygen levels and liver labs continue to improve. His surgery team is very happy with where he is.
Cohen’s Christmas was not at all what he hoped for but he even received a Santa bag of toys overnight in the ICU. He has had a couple visits from his sisters lately as well. Colby and I take turns with overnight shifts and visits to see the girls.
Thank you all for your support of Cohen! When we look back at this time I cannot wait to share over and over again the prayers we received over him, the toys and special packages (one even from one of his surgeons), the letters from his classmates, the incredible nurses who have cared for him, and so much more. God is all over his story and we know He will keep walking with Cohen through his hard moments.
Prayer needs
-Stomach pain will resolve
-Continued improvement with eating and gaining weight
-No more speed bumps so we can get him discharged
Thank you ♥️
Jessica

Oh poor little dude! Praying for answers as to stomach pain while eating and being able to resolve. I understand that both sets of grandparents and sisters as well as aunts and uncles are all present to support Cohen. Such a strong and faithful family – a wonderful blessing indeed!
