Collins has received a liver transplant!!! We are eternally grateful and elated for the blessing of receiving a liver transplant and for all of the support we have received. Thank you for continuing to share in this journey.
On Tuesday, September 15th at 10 AM our hepatologist called with the news that there was a perfect liver donor for Collins. The surgeon flew out of region to retrieve and evaluate the liver. The surgeon was very pleased with the condition of the organ and decided it was right for Collins. Collins was admitted to the hospital, cleared the post-op testing and was ready to receive. The surgery lasted 9 and a half hours and was deemed a sucess as her new liver was seen circulating. Collins is currently recovering in the PICU under the care of her team and parents, Kristen and Bijan. Due to COVID restrictions, Kristen and Bijan must trade off on who can be there while Collins is recovering. They eagerly await her transition to a step down unit, hopefully over the next week.
Although we may never know who Collins donor’s family was, we know that their extremely tough decision has changed our lives forever. We are extremely grateful.
