Our Story

UPDATE:  Conrad’s uncle John is the perfect match and going to be the living donor for Conrad on 1/25/2019!  Please read on!

Conrad Sutanto is a six-month-old resident of South Fayette, Pennsylvania. He is the son of Nicole and Andre Sutanto. He is starting to roll, loves to play with toys that make any type of sound or music, and smiles at everyone he sees. He is the life of our family parties.

At 4 weeks old, Conrad’s parents started noticing that his jaundice was not going away. After a visit to the pediatrician, lab work and scans, he was diagnose with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia. Conrad had his first life-saving surgery, known as the Kasai procedure, at 8 weeks old. Amid all this, he is the strongest and happiest baby. We are blessed with his daily heart-melting smiles at home. There is no cure for Biliary Atresia, and the next step is a liver transplant. Biliary Atresia is a liver disease in which one or more bile ducts is abnormally narrow, blocked or absent. As a result, bile does not leave the body as it should causing further damage to the liver and issues with growth and nutrition.

The estimated cost of Conrad’s transplant surgery exceeds $300,000, with additional costs for post-transplant medication and care. Volunteers are working to raise an estimated $50,000 to assist with transplant-related expenses. They have asked the Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) for help. COTA is a national charity dedicated to organizing and guiding communities in raising funds for patients in need of a life-saving transplant. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Most companies match your donation to a 501(c)3 organization like COTA. Please click on “See if your company will match your gift” under the GIVE NOW button to request a matching donation.
