10.1.24 – Wound Vac & PT

Over the weekend Cyla had her wound vac placed in the open wound on her abdomen.

This is a crazy contraption that sits inside the wound and has a hose attached to a pump that squeezes the wound closed from the inside out while helping to drain it as well. She handled it like a champ! This stays on until the wound is closed and they change it every three days.

She has been working really hard with OT/PT trying to regain strength in her arms, hands and legs to be able to move them and control them. She has been trying to take steps and is doing good so far.

Sleeping has been a challenge lately as she wakes often with simple needs that you or I would take for granted, an itch on her nose, needing to move her feet to a different position, adjusting her pillow. Right now these are things she cannot do on her own until she relearns the motor skills and gains the strength to do it.

My heart hurts for her as I’m sure she feels almost trapped in her own body. She doesn’t complain though and keeps apologizing to me but I’m grateful to be able to do it for her and help where I can.

We are hoping to head to inpatient rehab soon where it will probably be much more exhausting for her but hopefully help her regain a lot of her strength. Her little voice is slowly getting stronger as well which is so nice to hear.

Please continue prayers. Our hopes are for a full recovery and full function of arms and legs. I’ll keep the updates coming. We love you all.
