1 year has passed since the last official update. That doesn’t even seem right, but according to the COTA site, it’s the last one showing. I AM SO SORRY!!
Well then, where do I begin? It is been a year since Eliana started dialysis. All has gone well with dialysis at home. She has only been inpatient 3 times since then. July, when she got Covid. October she was rushed to the ER for BPs of 200/120 & while there she picked up the flu. April (now) for belly pain which is a possible infection (still unsure). It has been nice to be out of the hospital!! Parker appreciates the family time too.
Eliana started 4th grade in August, and has really adjusted to school life. She is doing great with her grades. She loves the social aspect of school, and that’s really the only part she actually enjoys. It is wonderful to see her make friendships. Luckily, I haven’t heard of any teasing or girl clicks; however, 5th grade is around the corner, and my mommy heart is nervous for her.
So what’s next? Well, we are currently waiting for science and medicine to make advances. Yes, we will definitely be getting her another kidney, but since she is doing so well (socially & emotionally) right now, we just don’t want to disturb the peace. I know that dialysis is not ideal, and ultimately, the new kidney would be the best solution for her body. We also have to consider her emotional well-being too. The risks of going through another year of fighting to save a kidney with the same medicine and therapies as last time, is not worth the long term effects that could have on her psyche.
I trust that the right research is being done right now that is going to set her free from FSGS. I manifest her future by envisioning her well and grown up. She is going to be such a beauty!!
