Our New Home

Well, it is official. We will be staying in Cincinnati, OH until Evelyn’s transplant. Our home is 103 miles away, roughly 1 hour and 35 minutes. While others drive much further, it’s still far enough that we don’t get to truly ever be home. When we do drive home it is for quick errands, a crash pad to sleep in-between work shifts, and nothing more than a building that houses all our stuff now. Our home is in Cincinnati, split between the hospital and the local Ronald McDonald house.

After talking to Evelyn’s medical team they decided it would be best for her to remain inpatient since she has not been able to stay out of the hospital for more than a few days. As difficult as this decision was, we will always do what is best for her to stay healthy and safe. Luckily Evelyn is medically stable and we are just living our everyday life in this tiny hospital room as we wait for her gift.

Unfortunately, this distance is really taking a toll on her sister, Vivian who spends about half the week back in Kentucky with her grandma due to her dad’s work schedule. This Sunday when it was time for Vivian to go she was clinging to the hospital room door crying that she didn’t want to leave. I had to peel my daughter’s fingers from the door as she was taken away from me. My heart has only hurt like that a few times in my life. We’re starting to really be concerned for Vivian’s mental and emotional state so Cameron and I are discussing our options to see if it is possible for him to take off a few weeks from work. This would allow us to all be together as a family consistently for the first time since mid-May.

I hope you all know how much each donation helps. It is because of these donations, the constant social media shares to spread the word, and your prayers that we have made it this far. Please know my family will always be so grateful for every dollar, mile traveled, kind word, and act of generosity we have received.
