I am here at Children’s of Alabama with my sweet grandson Gray. Gray had a heart transplant last week. It’s still unbelievable to me and such a gift. I am so thankful to be here with him and in awe of the fact that he is here with me. A friend told me when we began this journey that we would have God moments and we certainly have.
Gray and I have always been close and I have always cherished my time with him. It was such a treat when I was able to pick him up from daycare in the afternoon. We would go to my house and Gray always asked me to push him on the swing in the yard preferably as high as I could get him so that he could see over the fence and look for Mr. Tom next door. Another one of our favorite things to do together is to dance. Papa puts on music and Gray always asks for Crowder. Since he was 2, I hold him in my arms and we dance to My Beloved on YouTube. He raises his arms high and sings out loud, he know all the words. There is nothing better in the world! So many ordinary but joyful little moments where I feel so much love with this sweet little boy. We have been able to sing and dance here at the hospital before his surgery and we are both looking forward to the day that Gray goes home and I can push him on his swing. Watch out Mr. Tom, we will be looking for you!
It is difficult to see him go through so much yet he truly amazes me with his strength and resilience. It is clear that he has much to do in this life. I so appreciate all of the love and prayers that so many have shared with Gray and our family, as well as the financial support to COTA for Grays Heart. I hope that I have shared a little of Gray’s sweet spirit with you.
