On 7/21 Harley was admitted to the hospital. She finally spiked a fever. I say finally because her white blood cell count was 500 times the normal number but she never had a fever. The doctors determined that she had cholongitis. We were hoping that it would be a short stay but after numerous set-backs related to ascites that was not going to happen. Harleys liver was enlarged as well as her spleen leaving little room for breathing but then you add the excess fluid and it was really hard for little Harley. There were issues related to the meds used to clear up the ascitis kept causing her sodium levels to fluctuate.
Harley was so sick she cried very easily and disliked all of her nurses. She just wanted to be held all the time and we were all happy to oblige. She would play occasionally but it never lasted more than 10 -15 minutes. Although we have many pictures of her smiling – it was really hard to get her to smile she just really did not feel good the majority of the time.
