Post Transplant Life

When Sophia got the call about the liver she was actually at home for one of the rare breaks she got from the hospital.  She os course raced back and that night and all day she kept telling Harley “It’s almost over, you’re going to feel better”

Harley is a different baby post-surgery from color to attitude.  She went from a little yellow baby with yellow eyes to a very pink baby with what looks like red hair.  Every day she changes a little bit, it is as if her body can now focus on other things.  She got her 3rd tooth after transplant.  Can you imagine getting teeth while going through all of this!

The biggest change is the smile – she smiles all the time and loves, loves, loves her nurses.  No more crying when they take her temperature or blood pressure.  She just takes it all in and is very accepting of all the different things that need to be done. Her cry has even changed, at first it was different because she had been intubated and so her throat was probably sore but now it is the sweetest little cry and not filled with pain like it was before transplant.

She has to do physical therapy every day.  We are working on getting her to sit up on her own.  Before transplant she could not be on her stomach, it hurt her too much.  She could reach, grab and push herself up while being held so she wasn’t too far behind.  She has a toy that reminds me of the drum they use for bingo – she loves it and can play with it forever.

We got our whole new baby and we are just so excited about the life she has in front of her.
