Isaac, Scott and I had the opportunity to see Isaac’s “old” heart and his artificial heart a few days ago. It turned out to be a really neat experience and a way for God to show us more treasures in the darkness. We met with two pathologists who were excited to meet Isaac and told us they were so inspired by his story. They were amazed that he was up and walking and had fully expected that he’d be in a wheelchair! Everything was so kindly and gently explained and left each one of us in awe of our Creator. ![]()
They showed us Isaac’s artificial heart as well, also known as a syncardia. The pathologists explained the different parts to us and mentioned that GoreTex was used to attach the syncardia. Here’s the thing… my dad helped to develop GoreTex and the machines that make it. He used to talk about how they hoped that GoreTex would one day be used for heart surgeries. When I told the pathologists that, one of them looked me in the eye and said “this syncardia would not work without GoreTex.” How I wish I could talk to my dad about it! But how thankful we are for the gifts God gave my dad years ago that helped to save his grandson’s life. Only God.
