Transplant Accomplished!

Update from Lara:
Transplant accomplished!! It’s surreal that yesterday a kidney that was in Skyler’s body made its way to sweet Izzy’s little body, saving her life.
Nicole dropped Skyler off at the U of U yesterday morning. Unfortunately the U isn’t permitting anyone to accompany him due to COVID. Thankfully for Izzy, Primary’s had a policy change that same day allowing two parents (instead of just one) to be in the hospital with her, so Brad and I got to both be there.
The transplant itself went very smooth on both Isabel and Skyler’s side. The surgeon said Skyler’s kidney was beautiful. ?? He has taken good care of his body, choosing on his own around age 12 to not even drink soda. What a huge blessing it has been knowing Isabel was getting a kidney with a healthy history. We are still stunned that as her non-biological brother, he was a match. Skyler always wanted to donate, never even having second thoughts. I love my generous hearted son so much. ????
They are both in ICU recovering today. Sky had a rough go post surgery. Anesthesia doesn’t agree with him and he couldn’t keep anything down last night. ???? Izzy is more herself today, smiling, but still very sleepy. The doctors and nurses here at Primary’s are amazing. We are so grateful for them, our family, friends, neighbors. Most of all we thank God for blessing us so abundantly. I don’t say that lightly! We feel Him guiding this process every step of the way. We are definitely feeling the power of prayer at work through all of this. ????????
