Day 10 post Surgery

No pictures today. Jack didn’t do much, a lot of laying in bed. His nausea is still there but he only threw up a couple times today, so that’s a vast improvement. The team ordered X-rays to ensure there was no blockage and everything still looks good so that’s a relief. They decided to hold off on tube feeding and eating for a day to give his system a break. He’s just on an iv drop for now and that helped.

Jack is still walking a bit and trying to keep his body moving to aid in the healing process and he finally got the clear to leave the floor today. Hopefully we can venture out tomorrow to the lobby or playroom.

I was trained on the insulin pump and continuous glucose monitor (cgm) today. I even installed his cgm today when it was time to change sensors. As I’m collecting medications and supplies it’s overwhelming the amount of medication, devices and equipment he needs. Hopefully the feeding tube will be very short term. It’s definitely possible the insulin and glucose monitoring will also be temporary. Many of the medications he will be on initially are also temporary, we just need to keep that in mind.

Any time Jack is whining or complaining about pain or discomfort, we ask him if it’s worse than pancreatitis pain. He always says no, even with the new incision last week m. I’m so confident this was the right choice to make and the right time. The body can only have so many acute pancreatitis attacks before organs shut down. It was a dark path we were heading down and I’ve spent many nights this past year praying he would survive the next attack. Even though he’s miserable, he’s chatting away and asking questions or telling jokes. Everyone on staff has caught on that if you don’t want to be late for your next appointment, arrive to his room early because he will fill the entire time you have allotted and then son! Looking forward to a full recovery and getting to enjoy pain free Jack on the regular.
