Goodness it’s nice to see people we love. Family friends are visiting this weekend and brought down the siblings! Most exciting, Nate is done with school so he gets to stay down here with us until we head home! My mama heart is bursting. Grandma and Grandpa are also visiting! It’s so nice to see Jack interacting with everyone and he’s thrilled they are all here. We went to the zoo today, which was very hot and sunny. This was jacks first exposure to high heat while on insulin so we learned fast that outside air plays a major factor in glucose levels. We spent 90% of the time at the zoo feeding Jack sugar to try to get his glucose levels up. He was hypoglycemic most of the time and pretty darn miserable. He got to enjoy lots of slush, dipping dots and starburst to counteract it! By the time we were back to the parking lot his levels had gone up and stayed up so he was able to do something else after instead of just go back to the RMH and lay down.

He got to go swimming!!!!! It’s going to be a learning curve to find the right combination of adhesives to get us through pools this summer. We covered his CGM and pump with waterproof stickers (essentially tagaderm ) as well as applied his pump today using a tacky wipe prior and included an additional overlay. One 30 minute swim in and everything is still in tact. CGM is not as secure as the pump so we will be adding tacky stuff to it as well as an overlay in hopes of keeping it in place for another week. Any advice from seasoned pros is appreciated . These tacky wipes seem to be a game changer and were the recommendation of the pancreas team. Tomorrow we hope to hit up a local outdoor pool if the weather cooperates.
Our nights are going smoother! I tend to stay up late enough to give the second feed, then I just have to get up once during the night for his final feed. It’s not perfect, but we are making it work. He ate three solid meals today and many snacks so I’m hopeful our appointment Tuesday will show he’s gained back another pound or two and we can drop down to 8 hour feeds. He did throw up a bit last night but it wasn’t even a full meals worth, so I’m optimistic. I know some people can’t eat full meals for multiple months after this surgery, so his progress is still wonderful. We will continue to celebrate our wins and keep pushing his limits and we should be home in no time!
