If the last ten weeks have been a marathon, Jake is officially in the home stretch. He has transitioned to the rehab floor, and the shift in energy is incredible. He has been working incredibly hard with his new therapy teams. His physical, occupational, and speech therapists have gone out of their way to applaud his work ethic and determination.
In a recovery where it would be easy to feel defeated, Jake’s grit stands out. He is tackling every session and every goal and he has the whole floor rooting for him.
One of the biggest victories is Jake’s progress with eating. We have officially stopped using his NG tube for daytime feeds and he is able to eat his meals by mouth, only utilizing the ng for supplemental nutrition overnight. We are hopeful that even those overnight feeds will be discontinued very soon. Watching him regain this piece of his independence is a huge boost for him.
Every day, Jake is getting stronger, steadier, and more confident. He is navigating these final steps with excitement and a clear goal in mind. We are hopeful that next week will be our finish line. We are ready for him to finish this chapter, leave these hospital walls behind, and finally ring that bell
Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galatians 6:9

Have to laugh that one of the first foods appears to be popcorn! Looks like he is feeling so much better (of course popcorn helps!) Attaboy Jake!
Hooray! Looking forward to seeing you back home.
In church we are learning about Prayer- being in God’s presence. Wow! We can be in His Presence. Our pastor talked about helps/aids in knowing how to pray. He talked about ACTSS. It stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, Supplication and he added a second S to stand for Surrender. As I was praying today, I started out what I thought was adoration but then I was quickly in Thanksgiving and decided to look up Adoration. Adoration is the respect, reverence, strong admiration and love for God. Then it started listing Psalms that we can use in Adoration. The first one I read was Psalm 8.
Psalm 8[a] New International
For the director of music. According to gittith.[b] A psalm of David.
1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?[c]
5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e]
and crowned them[f] with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their[g] feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
And I thought of me and thanked the Lord that He is mindful of me. Then many other people came to mind including you, Jacob. We will never know why you were born with the heart that you had, but I do know now that since you have gotten your new heart, I am much more aware of how mindful God is. He knows you intimately and He is caring for you, your family, your extended family-the world. The God of the universe, who created the snow that fell this am and the animals and everything knows you intimately and provided a new heart for you and a new liver!! It certainly hasn’t been easy but we are adoring the God of the Universe, His Son Jesus, the healer and the Holy Spirit more and more because of your victories. He loves you Jacob and what a testimony you have of that love!! Thank you for letting me be part of this story!! I rejoice with each new victory and want you to know POPCORN was an excellent choice!!!
