Update from Laura:
Jaxon had a good overnight. His pain has been minimal and managed with Tylenol, and they are planning to restart his feeds this morning.
They have added two more tubes to him for drainage, thankfully there has been minimal fluid, and hopefully, we will see those come out in the next few days. We will have dialysis this afternoon for a couple of hours. We are starting the delicate dance of fluid balance. Since they took out his kidneys, he will not be able to produce urine. The only way to get rid of the fluid is when we do dialysis, which we will start three times per week.
Mentally, it was hard for him to see more tubes coming out of him. He handled it better than I thought he would, but it was deflating for him. However, Jaxon is doing well enough that he is giving us some “pre-teen attitude.” He wouldn’t let us kiss him before his line placement procedure, and he was harassing his sister with texts. He is feeling enough spunk to at least give people fits.
We will restart his heparin regimen today, and they will frequently be checking those levels to get them in the therapeutic range. Plus, they will start an oral blood thinner, which we can continue from home.
I think that is all the major stuff. Thank you for the prayers. The surgery went faster than they anticipated, grateful that pain and fluid have been so minimal. Please pray that we can find his body’s new balance of fluid and medicine
