Jayce has a stomach bug today. He has fever, stomach symptoms, and high heart rate. They gave him meds and now he is resting peacefully.

On the progression part of his heart journey, we signed paperwork for a Berlin heart. This is a machine that works as a heart. It will pull blood out of his body, mix it with oxygenated blood and send it back in the body. He will be on this machine until he receives a new heart.

Jayce’s body needs to improve drastically by the end of next week to not have this done, but if he goes too long on poor cardiac function he will no longer be a candidate for heart transplant. So we are doing it when the time comes.

Kids with the Berlin heart start to feel better. They do more things that they couldn’t do before. Some start eating by mouth, and walking without breaks or being winded. He can be on this for months, but it is battery powered. He will need to be plugged in and have short times off to walk around and play.
