On this beautiful fall morning Jeremiah is recovering slowly but surely on the regular cardiac floor. Looking back on these last three weeks it is amazing how much he has overcome.
10/14 heart transplant with open sternum, acute kidney injury, plasmapheresis for 5 days
10/15 started on CVVHD (continuous dialysis)
10/16 return to OR to add a graft to his superior vena cava and closure of open sternum
10/18 off the ventilator!!!
10/22 chest tube leak with pneumothorax
10/23 continuous dialysis for 12 hours only
10/25 change to hemodialysis 4 hours a day, blood clot found in the internal jugular vein, placed on continuous Bivalirudin for anticoagulation
10/29 pericardial effusion
10/30 cardiac catheterization and biopsy, needed balloon/stent of his upper SVC
10/31 biopsy results are 1R on a scale of 0-3, essentially considered no rejection, moved to step down cardiac ICU
11/1 moved to regular cardiac floor, hemodialysis now being done 3 times a week
We give God the Glory for bringing him through all this and continue to pray for full healing. He is still needing oxygen when he sleeps. They are still adjusting his cardiac and anti-rejection meds. His kidneys are better but still not functioning on their own. We don’t have an exact answer on when he can go home yet but we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
For another circle of people somewhere in this country, three weeks is another story. Three weeks without their child or spouse or parent or sibling or best friend…. We do not know these people but I’m sure their hearts are heavy and fresh with grief. Please say a prayer for these kind and brave people.
On behalf of Jeremiah and his whole family, we thank you once again for the overwhelming support and encouragement. It means the world not to have to go through this on our own.
