Joe is extubated, awake and alert, currently watching “Impractical Jokers” and his sense of humor is clearly intact.

 

It’s been a big day with PT getting him up, speech/swallow clearing him to eat, and optomology checking out his eyes.

 

Unfortunately- he cultured fungus in his blood and apparently fungus likes to cling to plastic – so they will be taking his Mediport out tomorrow- he’s not happy about that- his veins are hard to stick and the port is currently being used for IV access. They also need to change out the dialysis catheter- so he will be off dialysis for a while tomorrow- this will be good to see how his kidneys do in their own.

 

There is a long road ahead- but things are looking much better.
