Our Story

Cystic Fibrosis or CF is a devastating illness that affects the lungs and breathing is rendered a challenge at times when exacerbation sets in.  Pile on difficulties such as a seemingly benign cold or flu, then a recipe for disaster is created.  Our beloved Jordan Smith is an unfortunate beneficiary of this terrible disease and currently at University of North Carolina Hospital undergoing immediate intensive treatment.  He has been added to the upper level of the transplant list for a new pair of lungs.

While these complications arise, life goes on.  Mortgage will come due, electricity bills will arrive, monthly accounts for water, car, insurance, etc. will pile up.  The surgeons explain the future of the lung transplant procedure requires at least a three month stay in Chapel Hill post-surgery to be available for constant care and monitoring.  A three-month stay will require a whole additional life to pay for near the hospital (apartment, electric, food, constant shuttle to & from hospital, etc.).

We can’t imagine the range of emotions and thoughts Jordan and Kirstie are enduring at this time.  Please help join us in earnest prayer for them throughout this ordeal.  We ask for God’s divine touch on their lives as we know He is the Great Physician.

Health insurance will hopefully take care of much of the procedure costs and hospital stay, but with Jordan being the primary bread winner for the family, his wife Kirstie will be left to fend for their financial obligations that won’t stop during this lengthy healthcare journey. We know there are friends, family, and extended networks of supporters that would like to help during this time of crisis. I believe we can relieve at least some of the burden — please consider donating to COTA in honor of Jordan.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.

Thank you for whatever you can give.  It’s always humbling to ask for help, but we know Jordan and Kirstie would reach out to help others.  God Bless!
