Josiah’s LVAD device is connected to the controller and external batteries through a driveline that goes through his abdomen. This point of entry into the body is a high risk area for infections. This can be very dangerous as it leads directly to his heart.
This entry point stays covered 24/7, and we have to do weekly dressing changes. When it is irritated, we must do them more frequently. These kits are expensive, and we are truly blessed by the wonderful VAD Nurse Coordinator, who keeps us supplied with them.
Over the past couple of months, Josiah has had some irritation at the site, and he has been in a lot of pain since Sunday. His Cardiology team had him come to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon for lab tests and for them to look at i the site.
They are treating for an infection, and we are keeping an eye on it at this time.
We would appreciate your prayers for the infection to go away, and for the skin at the entry point to become strong and stable.
Pray for encouragement for Josiah, as these struggles can be mentally and emotionally draining, for us to know how to support and when to advocate, and for his team to have wisdom as they guide his medical care.

We are praying for a quick healing of his skin. We are also praying for his medical to and you all. God is with you:)
Thank you, sweet friend. How amazing that God brought our paths together so briefly at the hospital laundry room, and yet, God has given us the privilege of prayer support for each other’s journeys. He is so good to us.
I am so sorry Josiah is going thru so much. He is such a wonderful young man. I am keeping him in my prayers, along with the two of you, and praying a new heart will become available soon.
Thank you so much for the prayers. It is hard for us to watch too, as parents. Certainly, never what we would hope for him.
