The Seattle Children’s Heart Failure Team has walked by our side for the past 4 years now. Josiah was diagnosed in May of 2021. Don’t tell anyone, but the team that supports VAD patients is our favorite.
The amazing human to the left of Josiah is his main Cardiologist, Bethany Wisotzkey. She is forever curious and advocates for his care. Stephanie Church is to the right and is the Nurse VAD Coordinator. She is an incredible person, who is our go-to person for almost everything, as she helps the other departments support and care for him.
One example of this is when Josiah had to have his wisdom teeth out, and no other orthodontists would touch his situation. Thankfully, SC has a dental clinic for just these types of situations. She was with him from the moment we arrived at the check-in desk until he was discharged. They needed her expertise, as he doesn’t have a normal pulse, and his device can cause challenges for those who aren’t familiar with it should something arise while he is under anesthesia.
This team has gotten to know Josiah in his truest, spunky, sarcastic, brilliant, and funny self. This is the kind of care that helps kids and families feel safe.
I had the joy of sharing with an elite group of Seattle Children’s Leaders a couple of weeks ago, and I got to brag on these amazing humans!
We will miss them when he transitions to adult care. Please pray that we can make the most of our time with them. Also, pray for space for rest and encouragement, as they are facing burnout, as so many healthcare workers are.
