Thank you all for your prayers!
First of all, sorry for the long break between updates. Back in November, Josiah transitioned from Seattle Children’s Hospital transplant team to the University of Washington Hospital VAD and Heart Transplant Team.
In the transition, Josiah’s heart transplant listing was moved to inactive, which is standard protocol when switching between transplant centers.
Because Regence would no longer cover UW Medical for private pay members, his Medicaid coverage became his primary insurance.
Unfortunately, the Medicaid insurance provider he was assigned to also don’t cover primary care with UW Medical, so he had to switch to a different Medicaid insurance provider.
Approval of covering a heart transplant also has to be authorized wherever you transition between insurance companies.
So Josiah had a flurry of appointments in December to get all of the transplant evaluation appointments in before the insurance switch.
At the beginning of February, he received notification that he is approved to be reactivated on the list. We also got a letter from insurance saying that they are approving his transplant costs, although we have already experienced some things Medicaid doesn’t cover.
Thankfully, we have experienced great care for the entire UW Cardiology team including his new primary cardiologist, Dr. Pirlamarla, who graciously came to speak at a gathering a couple of weeks ago.
We will try and be better at keeping you updated on all that is happening. You all are truly a blessing for us!
