Keegan’s a warrior!

Keegan gave us a big scare this past month.  A few weeks ago, he went to school and suddenly became weak, droopy face and slurred in his speech.  A trip to the ED trauma bay, he had to put his needle exposure therapy to the test with an IV and some labs.  After much examination, his MRI was clear for no stroke or clots.  He did have some increased CO2 levels, but we were sent home to monitor those. Overall, he was diagnosed with a complicated migraine.  In the meantime, he has become more fatigued easier, which has led us to watching many episodes of Emergency (think John Gage and Roy Desoto in the 70’s).   We hate to see him slow down so much, but I do love the extra snuggles and reminiscing TV heartthrobs.

Today, we had the opportunity to tell his story to a group of medical professionals at Network for Life.  Our goal is to spread awareness of the need for lifesaving organ, tissue, and eye donations even for the pediatric population.  As parents we understand the feelings of losing a child and hate that another parent must face the choice, but we also pray for Keegan’s transplant.

As we begin our 4th year on the waiting list, we continue to enjoy life the best we can in our 4hr loop of Cincinnati.   He also has plans to return to Center For Courageous Kids Camp and see all his old camp friends and make new ones. Keep an eye out for Team Keegan at the American Lung Association’s Fight For Air Climb.  It’s one of his favorite days as he gets to hand out medals to firefighters all day and everyone seems to remember his name.   Also for any upcoming, COTA For Keegan fundraisers.
