Staying Busy…

Kennedy is now 32 days out from her liver transplant, and she’s kicking butt! Her lab results are looking great, and we are eagerly awaiting the green light to head back home.

Keeping ourselves occupied has been a challenge, but we are making the most of our time. Last week, we managed to visit the zoo, and it was a blast. Kennedy had so much fun (and so did we). We even got to see Fiona, the famous hippo. But Kennedy’s favorite part was definitely the lion. We also checked out the aquarium, and she was excited to see the big sharks and all of the other sea creatures.

Unfortunately, not everything can go smoothly all the time. Our only source of transportation broke down, with the AC no longer functioning. This would normally be just a minor inconvenience if the circumstances were different, but given that we are under a heat advisory, and Kennedy’s PICC line not being able to get sweaty, creates quite the challenge. There are moments where we are cooped up in the Ronald McDonald house for days at a time, going a bit stir crazy and longing for the comfort of our own beds and dogs. We know it’s temporary, there are just times when the weight of everything can feel heavy and that’s ok. We will take it one day at a time and persevere like we always do.

Kennedy’s family and friends FaceTime her daily, which helps things feel more normal. We try to get out and walk around the Ronald McDonald house at least once a day. Kennedy loves visiting all the therapy pets, which helps fill the void of missing her dogs back home. She keeps all their cards and draws pictures of them on a poster board we have on the wall, which I think is really cool. She’s a huge dog lover!

The countdown to our homecoming continues! We’re filled with anticipation and gratitude for the journey that lies ahead of us.
