Welcome Home Kennedy!

So much has happened since my last update! Kennedy’s labs have been fantastic, she’s been doing incredibly well, and they have finally gotten her blood pressure under control. And guess what?! We have been given the green light to head home! We arrived back home on Thursday afternoon, just in time for the Fourth of July celebrations next week. We have been taking it easy and getting everything back in order around the house. We have established a new and much better routine post-transplant, and things have been running smoothly so far. Kennedy was absolutely thrilled to be reunited with her dogs, and they were just as excited to see her. She hasn’t let them out of her sight since we got home.

However, there are a ton of rules we need to adjust to. For example, we have well water and Kennedy can no longer drink it due to the risk of infection. Even something as simple as brushing her teeth now requires bottled water in the bathroom. It’s just little adjustments to our routine that we need to get used to. We also have to be extra cautious about germs and sickness, especially with everyone wanting to see Kennedy. It has been a bit stressful, but with the right precautions, we know we can keep her safe. We also have to do frequent blood draws to check her levels, monitoring for infection and rejection. It is incredibly stressful, but we are doing our best to take it one day at a time.

Overall, this whole experience has been an incredible blessing. We are overjoyed to be back home in our familiar environment with all our belongings. Being back with family and friends feels amazing. Thank you all for following Kennedy’s journey. We are beyond excited for what the future holds!
