Today we found out. While Leaven was in the hospital we had genetics testing done. The diagnosis is scary, but we were prepared for it. Doctors had mentioned that Nephronophthesis was one of the issues that they thought could be the reason for his kidney failure.
They had to look through the herd of horses, but it ended up being a zebra. A rare genetic disorder that Leaven received through Elijah and I’s genetics. How’s that for a birthday gift…
To put it in layman’s terms, Nephronophthesis or NPHP1, is a rare genetic disorder that causes scar tissue and fibroids to grown inside the kidney. Leaven’s kidneys are so damaged that he is down to 25% kidney function. I am still trying to process the news.
As always, thank you so much for your support.
