We got the call yesterday afternoon. There was a potential donor. Got home from work, finished last minute packing, got in the car and headed out.
We arrived in Seattle around 11 last night. Exhausted, excited, nervous you name it we had all the emotions flowing through us at one time.
We started our morning with a drive through COVID /flu/RSV test. Next was check in to admissions. Some blood work, chest xray and some other lab work and then the wait. It has been an emotional day on so many levels. The excitement of a new kidney, a new life for our son. But sitting here in the hospital room I started to cry for the family that just lost their loved one. I hope and pray that one day, my family and I can meet them so I can hug them and left them know that their loss was not in vain.
At 6pm we got the news. It’s a go. A good match. An hour later he was in PACU and being Ed into the OR.
God bless the donor family and may He give them peace in their time of sorrow. May God be in the room with my son and his surgical team tonight.
