Our Story

My son’s name is Lamire and he had a liver transplant at 15 months old because he had jaundice as a baby.We were doing good for a very long time and then out of nowhere we ended up back at the hospital in 2023 because he was sick. It turned out he had stage 3 kidney failure. I was hearing for a while he just needed a liver transplant and then out of nowhere the doctors said we was going to see another hospital to get an evaluation because they think there’s a lot more going on with him and they wanted to make sure he didn’t need anything else done when he gets transplanted.  I went to the other hospital and found out he needs a multivisceral transplant which includes liver, kidney, stomach, intestines and pancreas. I was devastated to find all this out, but my motto is always prepare for the worst and pray for the better. I’m not even going to lie and act like I’m okay because I’m not, but I have to be strong for him.

Lamire is an 11th grader and has been homebound for the last three years because of infections, so he misses being around kids his age. He’s a very kind and lovable person. He loves watching his iPad and playing Fornite. All I do know is when he gets transplanted, I will be up in another state for about a year. So the donations to COTA for Lamire’s Journey will go towards a lifetime of transplant-related expenses. Thanks for taking the time out to read our story. It is greatly appreciated.

The Children’s Organ Transplant Association (COTA) helps children and young adults who need a life-saving transplant by providing fundraising assistance and family support. COTA is the nation’s only fundraising organization solely dedicated to raising life-saving dollars in honor of transplant-needy children and young adults. 100% of each contribution made to COTA in honor of our patients helps meet transplant-related expenses. COTA’s services are free to our families, and gifts to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
