Almost a year and April fools

Good afternoon,

It’s almost been one year since my heart attack and heart transplant, which means my family and I have the opportunity to write a letter to my donor’s family. I have no clue what I am going to write. I might just start with introducing myself and thank them? I don’t know, maybe I’ll just go from there.

Once we give the letter to the heart transplant team, they’ll send it to the donor’s family, and if the family wants to write back, they can. It’s also possible they might not write back. I really hope they do, though, because I have a lot of questions about my donor. It’s strange to have someone’s heart, but you don’t know who it is! The only thing we know is their weight and even that is not exact. We only know it’s between 70 and 110 pounds, I think. I’ve always wondered about their gender, how old they were, and where they lived, too. I have all of these questions and a there’s always a chance they won’t get answered!

Also, I’d like to add that I’m a huge fan of April Fool’s Day. This year I tricked my mom into thinking her favorite actor had quit acting by creating a newpaper on Word. For Abby, I postponed her band trip to Tennesee for school in a news article. Finally, my cousin, Emma, was visiting us and she lives in Toledo so I made up Toledo traffic in another news article. I haven’t pranked my dad yet. I can’t tell you what I’m going to do to him because he’ll probably read this.

Thank you for reading and enjoy your weekend.

I hope all is well,

Lauren 🙂

  1. I love your stories when you write! And since you’re such a good writer I’m sure whatever you say to your donors family will be thoughtful and genuine. I’m so proud of you.

  2. Ha ha!! Those pranks are awesome. It’s amazing how gifted you truly are.
I hope you find your answers as you take this new journey with your donor family. Best wishes and God bless.
