post-op day 21

Post-op Day 21

We have officially had a kidney for 3 weeks! I am happy to report that Leila’s kidney numbers continue to trend down and her transplant team feels reassured that her little antibody is not causing any damage to her kidney!

Leila got to go on her home vent today and is doing great on it! We plan to try her on her speaking valve tomorrow, which we are all really excited about! She also will get to drink some water tomorrow as well if the speaking valve goes well.

Her pneumonia continues to improve. She finishes her antibiotics this weekend. Please pray with us that her infection does not return. Please also pray that her antibody numbers would drop.

At this point we are working hard to get her off all sedative meds, which is a balancing act. We don’t want these medications to be a reason why she needs to stay in the hospital longer.

Leila is also doing really well with her feeds. She will be at her calorie goal by tomorrow, and we will be able to stop her IV nutrition. This is a huge blessing as she has tolerated the reintroduction of food to her stomach better than anyone expected!

All in all, our girl is doing great! On a fun note, she enjoyed beating everyone she could (esp Grandpa Don) with her balloon! She also stood and took a few, albeit unsteady, steps with PT today. So much progress! So much to praise God for!🙌
