Day 12 & 13 – August 16, 2025

God hath not promised skies always blue,
Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through;
God hath not promised sun without rain,
Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.
But God hath promised strength for the day,
Rest for the labor, light for the way,
Grace for the trials, help from above,
Unfailing sympathy, undying love.
A book from my childhood my parents read to me, Children’s Book of Virtues by William Bennett -highly recommend the Heroes one as well. I remember reading this poem to my children during Mac’s first year. Trying to convey to them that God still has us, even though the bad thing kept happening-being away from them in the hospital. We read it as a family to teach Andy and I the same hope. Suffering is not avoidable, it’s not in vain and produces faith and endurance just in case you’re in a season where God hasn’t dropped the bomb miracle to heal it all. I find that God gives us millions of little miracles, learning to savor every miracle one by one thus learning deeper gratitude.
