I can’t believe it has been 1.5 years since I last updated, but also it was intentional…

Not long after my last post, we found out that Macy’s labs had improved just enough to put off transplant. After having gone through the entire transplant evaluation process and finding a donor and getting to the literal point of scheduling surgery, to then be told not yet, was difficult. It took the wind out of our sails, because it wasn’t like Macy felt better but there she sat just a few percentage points above the threshold of insurance approval for a kidney transplant.

It was during that time that we all just needed to take a step back and go about life ignoring the fact that we were back where we started pre transplant evaluation. After years of updates and months of anticipation, we just needed a long break. During the last year and a half, Macy’s physical health has remained quite stable with few hospitalizations and just a few ER visits…if you can call almost being in kidney failure stable. Over the past several months however, her kidney function has started to consistently decline which means it is once again time to pursue a kidney transplant.

Macy is a senior now and working hard to finish high school before transplant. She’s planning to pursue a degree in elementary education when her health allows. She turned 18 last month and we celebrated with a surprise birthday party including her closest friends and family. For those of you who have been with us on this journey the past 14 years understand, it was quite the accomplishment to make it to adulthood and we are so very proud of Macy’s grit and determination.

Macy and her potential donor have once again resumed testing and we are currently waiting for the transplant team to approve them both for transplant. We are waiting on some important labs and would covet your prayers for good results!
