Good afternoon friends! Malin had her second follow up visit with her transplant nephrologist and, per her outstanding pattern so far, passed with flying colors! The whole team is thrilled with how well she is doing.
Here are a few things we’re currently working on with her transplant team:
After a few nights in a small hotel room, the transplant team moved Malin and Heidi (me) to a bigger space to be more comfortable. We are planning to stay close to UVA for about 4 weeks while we keep multiple follow up visits per week. This also ensures that we have what we need close by if Malin needs to be admitted for sickness or infection.
Even though Malin is doing amazing and her new kidney is working well, there are still regular changes to her medicine based on her labs to get the exact right dosage for her long term success with her transplant. The team is also closely monitoring her fluids and other health issues; having cystinosis makes her a complex case even with a new kidney.
Lastly, Malin has started gaining a little weight! Her favorite food at the moment is Cheetos and she’s been eating at meals more consistently. After watching a flatlined growth curve for about 6 months or so, this makes mom and dad so excited!
Thank you all for your prayers! Please continue to pray for smooth recovery for Malin and peace and wisdom for Alexander and Heidi as they navigate life with four kids in two cities.
