Our Story

Mason was born at 37 weeks due to mommy having preeclampsia. He came in to this world tiny at just over 5lbs, but healthy. That soon changed and mom noticed Mason was so sleepy he wouldn’t wake to even eat. The nurses on the maternity ward told Mom not to worry that it was just Mason being a newborn. After almost 3 months of hospitalizations and blood checks Mason was referred to a pediatric surgeon. This is when we first heard the words biliary atresia. Mason had a 14 hour surgery called the Kasai procedure in hopes we could get him bigger and stronger for a liver transplant. Often these babies with BA are put on steroids for prolonged periods of time. At 10 months old “the perfect storm” blew into our lives and Mason suffered cardiac arrest due to septic shock. 3 hours of CPR and 15 minutes without a pulse Mason suffered a massive anoxic brain injury. We were told IF Mason ever woke up he would be a complete vegetable and it would probably be in his best interest to let him go. Mom never gave up and people from all over the world began praying for Mason and he continues to defy all odds and prove the doctors wrong. This is the story of Mason’s miracle journey.
