Welcome Home!

What started out to be a day for me to come home actually turned into a day for both Max and I to go home. Today was my scheduled post-op surgery appointment with Froedtert. I’m healing as I should be and pending my lab results I should not need to go back for another 6 months. I was reminded once again that my healing process might take some time and that I should make sure I’m taking time to rest. I think my nurse repeated the last part several times…she knows I’m a mom to boys! For those that know me, resting and taking it slow isn’t something I do very well. No worries though, I’m getting daily reminders just in case I’m not following doctor’s orders. Speaking of not slowing down, Max has certainly proved his surgeon wrong in that he would not need to be staying the 2 weeks in the hospital as we were told prior to surgery. This boy of ours has done so well with his physical therapy, eating, drinking, daily labs and moving onto all pill forms of his medication regimen that he was given the okay to come home…a week ahead of schedule!! Travis and I truly feel that this milestone was possible with not only Max’s determination but also with all the love, support and prayers by all of you.

While we are so thrilled to be home, it certainly brings on new anxieties for Travis and I. Max’s medication regimen is pretty extensive and there is so much more that we will continue to be educated on in the coming weeks. With Max being on immunosuppressants we will have to be even more careful of his interactions and surroundings, especially with the circumstances of Covid. Max will need to be seen in clinic at Children’s in Milwaukee on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for at least the first month to monitor kidney function. While we adjust to our new normal in a world that seems anything but normal lately; it’s good to be home.
