Its crazy to think its been a week since Max and I went into transplant surgery. I guess when you spend days in the hospital they all seem to just run into each other and you tend to forget what day it is! What a week it has been…both Max and I have had some rough moments with recovery but I feel like all the good moments outweigh the not so good. For the last few days I have been staying at nearby hotel so that I can be close by in these inital recovery days. Luckily for us, Children’s Hospital lifted their visitor policy to having 2 parents in the room visiting, so I have been able to visit Max each day. We have been video chatting with Grayson, which brings all of us much needed giggles and smiles. Thankfully with technology we have been able to stay connected with family and friends throughout this past week. Reading all the special messages of love and support has given us so much heart-felt encouragement. We are truly blessed to have so many rooting Max on in this journey.
In the last few days that I have been able to spend with Max and I am continually being reminded of how incredibly strong and resilient he is. He continues to amaze his doctors and nurses with his progress each day. I think the hardest part is teaching him to slow down and to be cautious, mean while I’m walking around like a turtle and wondering how I’m going to keep up with him! We have managed to get him out of his room and even outdoors which he is enjoying. Over the last several days, Max and Travis have been keeping busy with working on mastering their video game skills and also their Nerf bullet targetry. Travis introduced the Lord of the Rings movies to Max and Max introduced a new graphic series to Travis. They both enjoy Max’s daily physical therapy sessions which has included a bean bag toss game and even a little soft hitting baseball (modified of course). The two of them have become such an amazing team during this recovery process.
Here are a few photos of how Max has been spending his time in recovery
