Greetings, Supporters of COTA for Miranda and the Rockey Family!
In this post-transplant recovery, it is clear that Miranda’s journey has its ups and downs… and thankfully, this week has felt a little more up. Foremost, we are rejoicing that Miranda was able to visit her church family this past Sunday! Miranda and the team tackled practicing the transport in a personal vehicle and coordinating the logistics of providing the things Miranda might need during an outing, all with great success! Miranda seemed highly encouraged by the opportunity to connect with her church, and her dear friends continue to celebrate the prospect of future visits.
Throughout the past week, friends have reported positive time spent with Miranda. She has been bright-eyed and conversational, making jokes and enjoying company as she shares activities with friends, like reading (mostly Harry Potter), taking walks, and simple exercises. She continues to enjoy chicken and fruit, and we are excited to report that she has re-gained five pounds!
The healing journey is slow–what feels imperceptible at times–and we are celebrating a week of hopefulness and connection. Of course the road stretches onward, so we thank you for your prayers and ask that you continue to pray:
- Joel and the team have coordinated a COTA fundraiser in honor of Miranda on August 18. For more information or to buy tickets, see the link on Miranda’s page. (And yes, donations to COTA are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law!)
- Miranda is currently paused on speech therapy and physical therapy due to a lack of participation in the past. The team has noticed that Miranda seems to shut down when she is asked to engage in these therapies. (She currently participates in occupational therapy.) Clearly, these therapies are significant in her recovery, so please pray that the care team and therapists will have wisdom in supporting Miranda’s engagement and also that Miranda will have clarity and fortitude in the midst of these difficult and fatiguing therapies.
- The team continues to work through the Medicaid application process. Continue praying for perseverance, clarity, and approval.
Many thanks for your ongoing concern, prayers, and support!
Miranda Strong!

Praying every day for Miranda, Joel and the whole family
