Greetings, Supporters of Miranda and the Rockey Family!
Last week marked the anniversary of Miranda’s transplant surgeries. With it comes that old cliche about any enduring event in time: it seems both hard to believe that it has been a full year since Miranda’s transplants–and with everything that has happened, we can scarcely believe that it has only been a year!
These past twelve months have been branded with intense grief, pain, and challenges for Miranda and the Rockey family. Yet their incredible fortitude and determination shine alongside the profound care and sacrificial love of family and friends, bearing echoes of God’s presence in the midst of the unthinkable. You, too, have been part of this wilderness; thank you for your support over these months.
Currently, Miranda continues to reside at the care facility as she makes strides to build the strength and skills needed to return home. She displays remarkable dedication in her therapy sessions. Here are some highlights from a friend who visited last week:
I spent time with Miranda at Neurohope on Tuesday. She had the progress assessment to check how much she has progressed over her last 10 visits. Her PT tested her strength, balance, how long she can stand, and how far she can walk with support. She knocked it out of the park! … Her PT said her core strength was so strong that he couldn’t even push her over. Miranda wanted me to be sure and tell everybody that! … In her first assessment on October 18, she walked 16 steps. Yesterday she walked 93 with support of a rolling platform. … She was her usual sharp witted and funny self. We had so much fun. She is motivated and ready! She never says no! She is always up for another challenge!
We are celebrating Miranda’s growth! Additionally, as she is now able to be transferred in a personal vehicle, she has been enjoying more outings, including church visits, activities with Nolan and Olivia, and even running errands with Joel. We pray for more of this in the coming months!
Please continue to join us in prayer for ongoing strength and progress in Miranda’s therapies, including the possibility of eye therapy. As we rejoice in the miracles of this wilderness, we look to next year with great hope for Miranda and the Rockeys. Thank you for your support in the midst of it all!
