Greetings, Friends of Miranda. We apologize for the delay in getting out an official update regarding Miranda’s current medical status. With attempting to shift the platforms where we are posting updates, there has been a bit of a delay in getting out other needed updates, as well. Now that everything is moved, we are hoping we can continue with more routine updates, so you all are in the know.
In general, there has been quite a bit occurring for Miranda over the past week, or so. As you may know, on 5/27, Miranda was taken to the hospital for an emergency surgery due to a bowel obstruction. Although concerning at first, that procedure seemed to go well, with a normal recovery. Following that procedure, Miranda returned to Southpointe, showing little change in her recent progress. She was still doing well pulling herself up, standing with support, following directions, and working on her general therapy needs.
A few days after being back at Southpointe, however, Miranda required a stent replacement (a routine procedure that needs to occur every few months for Miranda) and a GI tube replacement (due to a newly damaged tube). Although occurring within the same 24 hours, the last two procedures occurred separately, requiring two separate procedures under anesthesia. Both procedures seemed to go well, with just a short stay in the hospital. Upon returning to Southpointe, however, Miranda appeared to struggle more, not bouncing back as quickly as before.
Over the past week, Miranda has been much more fatigued and subdued. Conversations she was easily able to hold, prior to the last hospital stay, have seemed more labored, with more struggle related to short term memory. Additionally, Miranda has struggled more following commands and getting her body to do what her mind thinks it is doing. This has become much more concerning over the past few days, and as a result, calls were made to some of her medical team to try to determine what has caused this sudden shift.
There are some questions related to whether some of Miranda’s medications may be interacting with one another, and if a work up at the hospital is warranted. Southpointe took some labs yesterday, so the medical team is currently waiting for those results before determining if further evaluations need to occur at the hospital. As of today, Miranda has started to make some improvements, though (increased appetite, conversing more, etc). In turn, the medical team feels we should wait for the results of the lab work before making any decisions regarding being transferred to the hospital. We are grateful for Miranda’s recent improvements and are hoping they are a start to an upward turn for Miranda.
Please continue to pray for Miranda, and her medical team, as we explore what is occurring. Additionally, please keep Miranda’s family in your prayers, as well. It has been difficult to watch these sudden shifts in behaviors and abilities. We are hopeful that answers will be found soon and that Miranda will make a quick turnaround and continue progressing as she was before!
We will work to keep updates coming on this Miranda Strong site. Thank you for all your kind words, prayers, and encouragement for Miranda and her family!!
We are praying for you Miranda.
